Off again to that wonderful place across the pond. Four excited medical students started the journey from Knoxville, TN to our nations capital via Megabus. Hearing horror stories about broken air conditioning and not so fragrant megabus buddies, we were all pleasantly surprised at our (almost) completely comfortable journey to DC. The air conditioning caused some purple hands and feet but let's be thankful the air conditioning was fully functioning.
I arrived in DC to be welcomed by my friend, sorority sister, and roommate for many years, Laura. Living there for more than a year, she knew the ways of DC and the best hidden restaurants. After only walking for an hour or two in the hot sun, us medical students began to realize how our sedentary lifestyle full of studying for the past year has taken a toll. Yes, I can exercise in an air conditioned gym with my snazzy workout clothes and arch supporting sneakers yet that did not prepare us to be the super sightseeing tourists. I would argue that we are motivated individuals, however, so we survived and beat the heat and our sore feet to have a memorable feat.
With only a day in DC, Laura took us around and showed us the sites. Washington monument, Lincoln memorial, WWII memorial, Vietnam memorial, White House, etc. We also had a chance to reminisce on our college days and my new friends got a chance to see a glimpse into undergrad Faith. It's amazing to see how much people have grown since undergrad and what kind of new adventures they have embarked on. After graduation, our friend group in particular scattered all across the country, brave enough to try something new as official "adults." I'm proud of them all and was so happy to visit Laura in DC to see how her life has changed.
A flight later, we joined 5 of our other friends in Toronto, then headed off to Dublin together!
